The Javols Archaeological Museum!

During your stay, you will have the opportunity to visit the archaeological museum of Javols. Indeed, created in 1998, the Archaeological Museum of the village focuses its presentation on the daily life of former inhabitants and the principles of archeology. The concept of the Javols Museum is based on two major divisions:

  • A miliary terminal
  • A life-size statue of the Gallo-Roman forest god Silvain-Sucellus

The museum also offers a great outdoor walk with nineteen panels all around the town of Javols. The town was also recently renamed Peyre en Aubrac. The museum was created under the leadership of Léon Dalle, former general councilor, the Department of Lozère then delegated its management to the community of communes de la Terre de Peyre. In addition, the village of Javols occupies the former location of the Gallo-Roman capital of Gabales: Anderitum.
